Principal Selection Process

Dear Sangster Elementary School Staff, Parents, and Community Members:

As you know, Ms. Lisa Reddel, announced that she accepted a new position within Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS) as the executive principal of Region 4, effective October 5, 2020.  I want to recognize Ms. Reddel for her strong leadership of Sangster Elementary School during her six years as principal.  She performed her duties with the highest levels of professionalism, integrity, and dedication. I share her confidence in knowing that the great things occurring at Sangster will continue through the ongoing support that the staff and families lend to the school.

As we begin the process to find the next principal and in order to provide continuity, current assistant principal, Allison Jankovich, has been appointed as the acting principal effective October 5th until a new principal is selected. Ms. Jankovich is knowledgeable of the Sangster school community, cares deeply about the families and staff, and is dedicated to continuing to provide excellent support to the families and staff.

An important first step in selecting a new principal for Sangster Elementary School is to inform staff, parents, and community members about the principal selection process. Therefore, all staff, parents, and community members were invited to attend an important meeting on Monday, October 5.  If you would like to see a recording of this session, please e-mail Adam McGeehan, Sr. Administrative Employment Specialist, at [email protected]. for the correct site.

At Monday’s meeting, we outlined the multiple levels of interviews that will take place in order to select a candidate who is the best fit and match to lead Sangster Elementary School.  A panel interview will be held virtually on Friday, October 30, 2020.  The advisory panel will be comprised of three staff representatives and three parent (or community) representatives from the Sangster community.  If you are interested in serving as a panelist, please submit your information by close of business on Monday, October 12, 2020 using the Google document linked here.  The Region 4 Leadership Team will review all submissions and select staff and community members to serve as either panelists or alternates for these virtual interviews.  The Department of Human Resources will contact the individuals who are selected to serve in this capacity.

Another critical component of the process is your written input.  We invite you to offer your individual, written input via e-mail regarding the skills, experience, and leadership characteristics needed for Sangster Elementary School.  You might also address any challenges or issues that a new principal will need to address.  Input is confidential.  Below you will see suggestions for input and how you would submit it to the Department of Human Resources by Monday, October 12, 2020.
